Trail Description
Shit Happens and Big Kahuna - Whistler mountain bike trails. The rocky, pumpy expanse between Emerald Estates and Alpine Meadows is definitely the backyard for Emerald residents and saw it’s first trail development by Big Dan. Construction near Alpine has temporarily removed that end of things from the picture so we will concentrate on access from Emerald. Turn west off Hwy 99 at the southernmost Emerald entrance, up Autumn Drive and right at the junction with Emerald Drive. As you approach the crest of the hill go left up the watershed access road with its orange gate. With the construction at the Alpine end your best option is the loop formed by Shit Happens and Big Kahuna. 300 meters up from the gate a step up left onto a rock is the entrance/exit to Big Kahuna while continuing on up, the trail narrows and a left single track will put you into Shit Happens steepening as you pass a couple of pretty little lakes on the right. From a rock promontory at a crest Anal Intruder (An interesting diversion) dives steeply off the rock right while Shit Happens continues on. Midway through a descending section, (making it easy to miss) Big Kahuna climbs up to the left while continuing east will bring you to a T-junction. Right at the junction on No Girly Man you will be treated to wonderful technical rock riding and views of Green Lake as you descend to Hwy 99 to emerge opposite Trudy’s Landing close to Alpine Meadows. (Girly Man can also be ridden, with a little more difficulty of course, up from here.) Left at the junction will head you into White Knuckles whose name says it all. Not for the meek or in my mind, the sensible. Kahuna from Shit Happens has a few testy little climbs but is primarily a descent featuring wonderful granite slab features.
Features
Lots of great rocky spines to ride along. The feature is the Big K and it is soo fun to ride down and tough to ride up.
