Just cuz there's snow on the hill doesn't mean you have to pack your shorts away. Folks are still riding when the weather is clear despite the frosty climate. For those that cleaned and lubed the bike and tucked it away for the season, you can get yer "bike-jones" at the BC Premier of the movie Klunkerz. Klunkerz, a film about Mountain Bikes is screening at the Whistler Film Festival on Friday November 30th, 7pm at the Rainbow Theatre in Whistler.
Here's the scoop...
Northern California’s Marin County is widely accepted as the incubator of the global mountain biking movement. It was here that cyclists rode modified pre-WWII bicycles, scavenged from dumpsters, junkyards and even adapted from old motorcycle parts, down the slopes of Mount TamalpalisThese hefty steeds were affectionately known as ‘Klunkerz’. From these humble beginnings a multibillion
dollar industry, new form of recreation for the masses, and an Olympic event, were born. Using archival footage and interviews, Klunkerz takes a look at the earliest days of the sport, and the culture that surrounded it.
The early days are always cool to look at even though the mountain bike is only 30 years old.
We happen to know that the real inventor of the mountain bike geometry as we know it was Kent Eriksen who lives in Steamboat Springs , Colorado. Kent founded Moots Cycles and then sold the big company to begin at his roots in the old beehive burner.
