Family Rides
No couch potatoes here! Leave the gameboy at home and get ready to rip it up on our magical trail network. Our family adventure offers something for the whole family: from rewarding and educational experiences, to adrenalin rushes for teenagers with the need for speed, as well as an element of relaxation for parents. This fun-packed family adventure starts out with riding in the trail network of Lost Lake then we'll tailor the rides to each group's ability or desire. A family that rides together does not always have to stay together. We'll have plenty of options for members to split and ride different levels of terrain. This trip is more than just a riding adventure, we'd be "short changing" you if we didn't provide some other thrill seeking activities so we've added a rafting adventure and a flight on Skyline, North America's fastest zipline. We are also excited to include a visit to the new Squamish Lil'Wat Cultural Centre opening in June 2008. Designed in the forms of a Squamish Longhouse and Lil’wat Istken (earthen dwelling with fire pit), this 30,400 square foot complex has been created by the Squamish and Lil’wat people to share their living cultures with the world.
Perfectly suited to families and novice riders, this is a fantastic experience, riding through old growth forests, a compliment of multi-sport activities, Aboriginal cultural education and even the chance to spot one of our many resident bears. An unforgettable trip offering the very best of British Columbia's Coastal Mountains.
Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive Whistler on your own or via our optional transfer service. Check into your room then head out to explore the wonderful Whistler Village. Depending on what time you arrive, we'll get together and set you up with your high performance bike for the week. [Meals on own]
Important Notice: Day 1 is the day you should plan to arrive in Whistler. This may require departing your hometown one or more days in advance.
Day 2
Full Day Ride. Today we start the adventure. After breakfast we'll take you to our riding base at the Riverside camp ground just outside the village. We'll ensure everyone is set and that bikes fit then it's off to Lost Lake for a warm up and skills level assesment. Depending on your groups level of riding, weather conditions and a whole bunch of other variables our guides make a route choice that is never bad nor written in stone. On most full days there are some climbs involved and we don't shuttle. We are sort of fundamentalists at WBG and our planet needs more bike pedals and less gas pedals if you get our drift. With hard work comes rewards and we provide the goods with big views and single track that makes you pay attention and see how fun a bike can be. We like to swim when it’s hot and we also like to eat good food on full days and know tons of secret spots to relax before, during and after a ride. On a full day you can expect to be riding for 5-6 hours including re-fueling for all levels of riders. This is not a marathon and having fun is mandatory. If the swimming is too good to leave we'll shift gears accordingly. We also have some opt-out options should you run out of steam and not be able to recover with a cold drink and a super brownie.
This evening you are on your own to dine at one of over 100 eating establishments in town. We have something for every budget and taste and will be happy to make recommendations. [BL]
Day 3
A day to relax the muscles but no taking it easy. Today’s adventure includes a rafting trip on the Green River (Class II to III). Whitewater rafting in the spectacular Whistler area attracts paddling enthusiasts from around the world. The Green River gives visitors to Whistler an opportunity to experience whitewater rafting and still have time to enjoy Whistler's many other attractions. The Green's moderate, fun-filled rapids with its panorama of stunning snowcapped peaks make this a memorable experience. On the placid waters of Green Lake, just 5 miles (8 km) from Whistler Village, rafters have an opportunity to practice and synchronize their paddle strokes before starting the downriver voyage. The 4.5-mile (7 km) Green River raft trip is a favorite with Canadians as well as foreign visitors. [Meals on own]
Those looking for a more exhilarating day on the water can upgrade to a full day Elaho-Squamish trip (Class III to IV)
Note: Rafting trips are subject to change depending on River conditions and typically run from the end of May to the end of August. If you are booking one of our early May or September trips we will substitute the rafting with another adventure activity such as Bungee Jumping or a high alpine mountain top hike.
You'll have free time today to jump on your bikes and explore the Whistler Valley. If it's hot a daily dip in one of our many lakes is recommended.
Day 4
Half Day Ride. After breakfast we cruise out to today’s choice of trail. Depending on your level of riding, weather conditions and a whole bunch of other variables our guides make a route choice that is never bad nor written in stone. Hell, this is Canada! We like to mix it up with climbs, rollers and downhills that make you want cruise all day. If its smoking hot we will definitely go swimming and ride by the rivers and creeks where it is nice and loamy. For a 1/2 day tour you can look at between 3 and 4 hours for all levels of riders. The trail choice depends on the group and their skill level, we have endless options in the valley.
After lunch, on your own, get ready to fly on Skyline, Whistler's most exciting eco adventure! Skyline is an exhilarating cable line expedition through old growth forests on Cougar Mountain.
After a day of excitement it's time for some culture with a visit to the new Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre. Designed in the forms of a Squamish Longhouse and Lil’wat Istken (earthen dwelling with fire pit), this 30,400 square foot complex has been created by the Squamish and Lil’wat people to share their living cultures with the world. [B]
Day 5
Full Day Ride. The “Full Pull” swimming and riding adventure as per Day 2. After another day on the trails why not book the kids in at The Core climbing centre then mom & dad unwind with a couples massage at one of our 17 spas in town. We'll be happy to make arrangements. [BL]
Day 6
Free Day to stroll through the village, head into the high Alpine for a hike or ride some more. Other activities we can arrange include:
- Fly fishing in one of our many lakes or rivers
- Kayaking or canoing down the river of Golden Dreams
- Bear awareness tour. Learn about the Black Bears that are an important part of BC’s natural heritage.
- Bungee jumping, come on mom!
[Meals on own]
Day 7
We're at the end of a full week of family fun. You can always add a additional days. If you real must go it’s time to pack your bag and head for home. If you've arranged transfers with WBG Adventures we'll pick you up at your hotel, otherwise Bon Voyage and come ride with us again!
